Abstract

Chillies (Capsicum) Rom. are believed to have established well in the tropics about five centuries back. India is the largest producer and consumer ofchilli. Considerable variability exists in the different cultivated species across the country. With India as a signatory to the WTO it has become imperative to preserve our genetic wealth in order to safeguard our rights on them.
